What does the certification process involve?

  • An online timed exam containing a broad spectrum of questions relating to wysiwyg

  • You must achieve a score of 80% or above in the exam to be awarded Certified User status

Prerequisites

Before attempting the User Certification you should have:

  • An understanding of lighting terminology and equipment

  • Completed the wysiwyg Essentials courses or prior wysiwyg experience

Certified Users will have demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Navigating the wysiwyg user interface

  • Building and customizing venue and scenic elements from given dimensions and requirements

  • Creating lighting positions from truss and pipe

  • Efficiently adding, positioning, modifying, focusing, patching and controlling fixtures (in Design Mode)

  • Visualizing lighting including the exporting of renders and videos for use in design presentations

  • Preparing and printing plots and paperwork

Taking the Exam

  • When can I take the certification exam?

    You can take the User exam online at a time to suit you.

  • How many questions are there and how much time will I have to complete the exam?

    You will be presented with 40 questions and have 50 minutes to complete the exam.

  • What is the passing grade for the exam?

    The minimum passing grade is 75%

  • Do I lose points if I answer incorrectly?

    No, you don’t lose points for answering questions incorrectly.

  • Can I review my answers before completing the exam?

    Yes. Before you complete the exam, you will have the opportunity to review your answers to all questions.

  • Can I take the exam again if I do not pass?

    Yes. If you do not achieve a passing score on an exam the first time, you must wait at least 48 hours before retaking the same exam. If you do not achieve a passing score on the second attempt, you must wait at least 10 days before retaking the same exam.

  • How long is a wysiwyg User Certification valid?

    The wysiwyg User Certification is valid for 2 years from your certification date. To maintain your certification status after 2 years, you must retake the exam.

  • Can I take the exam without taking the Essentials courses?

    Yes. If you are confident in your wysiwyg knowledge, you can go straight to the certification exam.

  • I would like to request special accommodations for a wysiwyg Certification. What is the accommodations policy?

    If you need special accommodations, please contact the training team via email [email protected]. Test accommodations are individualized and considered on a case-by-case basis. Please note that the purpose of test accommodations is to provide candidates with full access to the test. They are not a guarantee of improved performance or test completion.

Scoring and Results

  • When will I get my exam results?

    You will receive a pass/fail exam result within a few minutes of completing your exam.

  • Can I find out if I answered a specific question correctly or incorrectly?

    No. In order to protect the security of our certifications, CAST does not share information about the specific questions that were correct or incorrect.

  • Can I request a reevaluation of my score?

    No. Because CAST must ensure that candidates who pass exams and earn a certification have demonstrated the required proficiency level(s) across the skill domain(s), the final result of an exam cannot be changed.

  • Can I get a refund if I don’t pass an exam?

    No. CAST does not offer refunds for exams that you do not pass or exam appointments you miss. Additionally, CAST does not provide any discount if you retake an exam.

  • How do I print my e-certificate when I pass the exam?

    If you passed, you can print your certificate from your account, navigate to the “Certifications” tab and under “Downloads” click “PDF Certificate.”

  • What do I receive upon getting certified?

    Once you pass your exam(s) and become certified, you will receive a digital badge and a printable digital certificate. Badges can be easily shared to social networks including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and other social networks and can be embedded on your website or blog.
